The name “ylang-ylang” comes from the Tagalog word ilang, meaning “wilderness”, or alang-ilang, meaning “flower of flowers”.

Ylang ylang

Native to southeast Asia, this tropical tree or vine produces clusters of yellow star-shaped flowers that face downwards. The name derives from Filipino and means “Flower of Flowers”.

The scent is floral and sweet, a little like jasmine, but with distinct fruity notes sometimes compared to banana. It has a green aspect as well, not dissimilar to neroli, with an additional tropical twist
